MGH302 Health promotion and disease prevention in at risk groups: strategies and methods, autumn 2023, 15 credit

The course is due between 1st Nov 2023 - 14th Jan 2024

Welcome to the course!

This course will give students knowledge in health promotion and prevention and community-based work using participatory approaches to create social and behavioural change, both on the individual and community levels. Theories in health promotion, disease prevention, social work, psychology, and the study of religion and culture will be used to understand health behaviour and to create possibilities for sustainable health improvements.  Central to this course is a field study where students will use the theoretical and practical knowledge they have gained throughout the course and programme to design local health promotion projects/interventions. The course has a strong emphasis on social justice and reflects a bottom-up and strength-based approach when discussing and advising people and communities on how to change their health behaviour.

The course is structured in line with the book (also available as e-book): Wills, Jane (2022) Foundations for Health Promotion. Amsterdam: Elsevier Health Sciences (352 pages). We highly recommend you to get this book in time for the start of the course!
